Library Outreach Intergenerational Storytime
The Kasson Public Library bi-weekly outreach Books on Wheels visited Prairie Meadows today with a special intergenerational program. I would like to thank Jill and the mom's for bringing their children to share with the seniors today.
Jill Foley talked to Library Director Bonnie Adams about a program that she saw where seniors and children participate in a storytime program. We were both impressed with the idea of enriching both the seniors and the children lives.
It was decided that Jill would do the first storytime in April with the seniors and some of the children from the library weekly storytime. The program today was very sucessful and rewarding for the seniors, moms and children. Jill plays the violin so she brought stories that had either music or a violin featured. Everyone enjoyed Jill reading the stories and telling and showing the difference between a violin, viola, and a cello. She even let the children feel the vibration produced when a string was plucked on the cello. The children then colored pictures of a violin and gave them to the seniors to keep.
We are going to do this storytime format the first Thursday of each month at the senior living facility. If anyone would like to bring their children or read books to the children please contact the Kasson Public Library, 507-634-7615. We will next visit the facilty on Thursday, May 1 and work with May day theme.
Below are pictures of the children, mom's and seniors.
