Friends of Kasson Library Book Club

Friends of the Library Morning Book Club held its first meeting today in the library at 10 am. Pat Coy of the Kasson Friends wanted to join a book club and there were none available to her so she decided to start a book club.

There were eight enthusiastic people that listened to Pat Coy and special guest speaker Sharon Hythecker. Sharon shared the success of the Dodge Center Book Club and how they organized their meetings and how they choose books to read for the month and year.

The group decided that they would meet the first Tuesday of each month at 10 am in the library. They have already chosen their first book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. The next meeting will be May 4 at 10 am in the library.

There is also an evening book club sponsored by the Friends of Kasson Library and their first meeting will be Thursday, April 22 at 6pm in the library.

Glass castle Summary:
It is a story about he author's father was a charismatic but alcoholic man who greatly preferred poker to gainful employment and wasn't above stealing the family grocery money to purchase liquor. His wife could barely be bothered to raise her children. So Walls and her siblings had to fend for themselves, providing their own food, shelter and clothing - even if it meant picking through dumpsters. Remarkable for its lack of sentimentality and anger, the story is a striking testament to the power of human determination.
