Come Cook With Me-Pat Dibble

Pat Dibble's Come Cook With Me was selected as the location of the library's Hot Reads For Cold Nights program on Tuesday. Nineteen people showed up at noon to learn how to cook two dishes, chicken enchilada and baked spaghetti and everyone agreed they were very good. An extra treat was Mac and Cheese from scratch with flour, two cheeses and scalded milk. Very tasty!

Usually our programs are at night, as we know most people work and find it difficult to attend a daytime program. We decided to try a noon program and invite the local businesses to come and join us in a daytime Hot Reads program. The program was very well attended with room for just a few more.

Pat told us a little about her business and the cooking classes that she tries to have monthly. She also mentioned that she has special classes for groups that want to have a more private lesson or to celebrate a special occasion. We are very grateful to Pat and her business of allowing us to have an adult library program.

Hot Reads-Author John Schreiber

Last night local author John Schreiber was guest speaker at the library's Hot Read For Cold Nights adult reading program. John has written five books-three deal with Ironwood county, a fictional town in Minnesota. Hillcrest Journal, Passing Through Paradise, and Life on the Fly. Tales from 2 AM are short stories and plays that are very entertaining. Heartstone is an epic fantasy written in a fast-paced, cinematic style.

John described for us his writing techniques and his journey to being published. John takes about five years to write, edit, and publish his books. He does the bulk of his writing in the summer because of his teaching and directing plays during the school year. He edits and revises during the school year. John decided to go with Publish on Demand (POD) for publishing and selling his books. The book is computerized and some are printed ahead of time for book signing etc., then if more are needed they are printed and distributed at that time. So there is no need for a large amount of start-up money.

John Schreiber grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and now lives in southern Minnesota. and is an award-winning teacher, and theater director at Triton High School. John Schrieber's website and book sales are http://frontiernet.net/~jamsch/Site/Welcome.html.

February New Books

Kasson Public Library receives some of the established author's new books automatically when they are published. Below is a listing of February's New books.

Run For Your Life by James Patterson 2/2
A calculating killer who calls himself The Teacher is taking on New York City, killing the powerful and the arrogant. His message is clear: remember your manners or suffer the consequences! For some, it seems that the rich are finally getting what they deserve. For New York's elite, it is a call to terror. Only one man can tackle such a high-profile case: Detective Mike Bennett. The pressure is enough for anyone, but Mike also has to care for his 10 children-all of whom have come down with virulent flu at once!

Lethal Legacy by Linda Fairstein 2/10
Fairstein's entertaining 11th legal thriller to feature ADA Alexandra Cooper of Manhattan's Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit (after Killer Heat), Alex persuades librarian Tina Barr to go to the hospital after a burglar posing as a fireman assaults Tina at her East Side home. After Tina disappears, a woman's corpse turns up in Tina's abandoned apartment that looks like Tina's landlady, heiress Minerva Hunt, but in fact is Minerva's Romanian housekeeper.
Heart and Soul by Maeve Binchy 2/17
Dr. Clara Casey has been offered the thankless job of establishing the underfunded clinic and agrees to take it on for a year. She has plenty on her plate already—two difficult adult daughters and the unwanted attentions of her exhusband—but she assembles a wonderfully diverse staff devoted to helping their demanding, often difficult patients: the infectiously cheerful nurse; the indispensable office manager who can’t quite manage her own life; the Polish girl who’s come to Ireland to put a bad love affair firmly in her past and the booming Irish economy in her future; the young doctor who has a special touch with his patients; the physical therapist who undertakes a very different kind of therapy involving a local priest and a stalker.

While My Sister Sleeps by Barbara Delinsky 2/17
An Olympic marathon contender, self-centered Robin Snow often rubs her younger sister, Molly, the wrong way. After many years in her sister's shadow, Molly takes out her resentment with petty actions, such as refusing to accompany Robin on a run. Fatefully, Robin has a heart attack while training and falls into a coma. As Robin's condition fails to improve, Delinsky digs tediously into the family's woes: Molly's touchy relationship with Robin's ambitious reporter ex-boyfriend; middle son Chris's dealings with a would-be blackmailer; mother Kathryn's trouble coming to terms with Robin's dire prognosis.

Irish Tweed by Andrew Greenley 2/17
Nuala Anne and her daughter have taken up karate to fight off schoolyard bullies who are harassing the family, while their incredibly shy nanny, Julie, is courted by a new fellow. Dermot pores over a memoir of a famine refugee whose family died of a mysterious fever, looking for clues into the illness' real cause.

Lukes Story by Jerry Jenkins 2/19
Now they are teaming up again to bring to life the glorious, dramatic story of Jesus Christ, told through the eyes of the Gospel writers- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. What Left Behind did for the Book of Revelation, The Jesus Chronicles will do for the Gospels.Luke never met Jesus. Unlike the other Gospel writers, he never witnessed Jesus perform miracles or heard Him impart the Word that healed the souls of so many. No, his was a belief built on faith alone, like that of believers today. In Luke's Story, we follow him as he rises from Greek slave to university-educated physician. Along the way, he meets Saul of Tarsus, a formidable Hebrew debater who becomes both Luke-s role model and greatest competitor. Luke is intrigued but skeptical when he hears tales of a man named Jesus who purportedly performs great miracles of healing.
Death of a Witch by M.C. Beaton 2/24
Hamish Macbeth (the Scottish Highlands most stubborn (and romantically challenged) bachelor returns to his home village of Lochdubh from a disappointing vacation to discover a witch stirring up trouble. To Macbeth's annoyance, the sex-starved local men have fallen under the spell of Catriona Beldame, who turns out to be a runaway bride with a shady past. Macbeth longs to prove she's selling illegal (and bogus) remedies for sexual dysfunction, and warns her to stop if she is.
Night and Day by Robert Parker 2/24
Things are getting strange in Paradise, Massachusetts. Police Chief Jesse Stone is called to the junior high school when reports of lewd conduct by the school’s principal, Betsy Ingersoll, filter into the station. Ingersoll claims she was protecting the propriety of her students when she inspected each girl’s undergarments in the locker room. Jesse would like nothing more than to see Ingersoll punished, but her high-powered attorney husband stands in the way. At the same time, the women of Paradise are faced with a threat to their sense of security with the emergence of a tormented voyeur, dubbed “The Night Hawk.” Initially, he’s content to peer through windows, but as times goes on, he becomes more reckless, forcing his victims to strip at gunpoint, then photographing them at their most vulnerable.

Promises in Death by J.D. Robb 2/24
Amarylis Coltraine may have recently transferred to the New York City police force from Atlanta, but she’s been a cop long enough to know how to defend herself against an assailant. When she’s taken down just steps away from her apartment, killed with her own weapon, for Eve the victim isn’t just “one of us.”Dallas’s friend Chief Medical Examiner Morris and Coltraine had started a serious relationship, and from all accounts the two were headed for a happy future together. But someone has put an end to all that.

One Day At A Time by Danielle Steele 2/24
Coco Barrington was born into a legendary Hollywood family, her last name loaded with expectations. Her mother is a mega-bestselling author who writes under the name of Florence Flowers—and her sister, Jane, is one of Hollywood’s top producers. They’re not your typical family by any means.…Jane has lived with her partner, Liz, for ten years, in a solid, loving relationship.
