Three Things You’ve Given Up and Never Regretted

Simplicity is about abundance and enjoying life’s rewards, but if we’re completely honest, it’s also about giving things up. Sometimes we give things up, only to regret it later. Most of the time, we hardly remember ever having them at all.

This weekend, I want to hear from you. What are three things you’ve given up and never regretted?

Here’s mine:

• Worrying how well my house looks inside
• Magazine subscriptions
• The thought of what others think

Friends of the Library Book Sale

The Friends Books Sale runs from Thursday, November 19-Tuesday, November, 24. The book sale is open the normal hours of the library from 10 to closing. Monday and Tuesday will be $1.00 bag sale.

Making Bread Storytime 11/17-19

This week the children along with Librarian Ingvild learned the ingredients for bread and help make bread to take home and bake. Kasson Olde Fashioned Christmas Holiday Craft Items Needed

Kasson Chamber of Commerce Olde Fashioned Christmas is on Saturday, December 12th 10-1 at local businesses.

Children's Librarian Ingvild has found a great project but is need of a few items-jigsaw puzzles of any size (ok if missing pieces) and margarine/sour cream/cottage cheese container lids for the craft.


If you can help us with these items it will greatly appreciated. Please bring ASAP so we can plan for this fun filled family project.

K-M Care & Share Auction

The Friends of the Kasson Library have two gift baskets on this years auction block. Stop at this very worthwhile endeavor and bid on one or both baskets.

KM Care & Share has been supporting community members in times of need since being established in 1982. The KM Care & Share Auction has been the cornerstone of this organization since the beginning. From the first event, with only a handful of people present, the KM Care & Share Auction has continued to grow into one that is now attended by hundreds of community members.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY NEW PARTNERSHIP

Friends of the Library and local area resident, Paul Curtiss' company DiscAnew have formed a partnership that offers a on-going library fund raiser that will help with library programs. Paul's company extends the life of your favorite discs by cleaning and resurfacing almost any type of disc. DiscAnew has pledged to give partial proceeds to the library for their many ongoing programs.

Paul's state of the art machine can take almost any game disc, blue ray, software, DVD's, picture CD and CD's and clean and resurface it. With this service your favorite game, DVD or picture discs can be saved and still played. Paul has extended the playing life of many of the library's DVD's that were previously thrown away due to scratches etc. and has made it possible for us recirculate our ever popular DVD's.

To make it easier for the customer DiscAnew and Friends have agreed to make the library a drop off and pick up point. Paul will come twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, to will pick up and return discs to the library. Take time today and stop by the library to pick up forms and talk to the library staff about this exciting fundraising program that will stretch the life of your favorite discs.

Cost:

$4.50- CD, DVD, Picture and CD-ROM

$6.50-Game, Blue-Ray, & Software/Curriculum.

The library will receive $1.25 from each disc cleaned. Please help the library by bringing in all the discs you need cleaned.

Family Storytime Week of November 9th

Library Director Bonnie and Children's Librarian read stories about families. They children then were given a feather to write what they were most thankful for and then places in on a large turkey in the lobby of the library.
The library is very fortunate to have many dedicated parents and their young children, and area daycares that come regularly to our storytimes. We are most thankful for your loyalty.

Library Closed For Veterans Day

The library will be closed on Wednesday
November 11th for Veteran's Day.

There will be no storytime on Veterans Day
but storytime will resume on Thursday, November 12th.

Friends of the Library and Care and Share Auction

20 Qualities for a Successful Life

20 Qualities for a Successful Life Written by David B. Bohl of Slow Down Fast.
How do you define a successful life? Is it by how much money or stuff you have amassed, or is it by the legacy you leave behind? All too often we equate a successful life with material possessions. Yet, there are millions of people out there who lead successful, fulfilled lives who may be of modest means. They may not be rich in the financial sense, but they are rich in life and values.So what are the things we should strive for to make our lives successful and have a positive impact on those around us? Here is a list of traits that I think defines what true success in life is all about. Does your list differ?

• Sincerity. Be sincere in your actions. Don’t try to deceive or impress others. Be yourself, and do what you feel is right based on your values and beliefs. You will be surprised at how people accept you when you stop trying to be someone you aren’t.
  


• Unfeigned. Be genuine in what you do; your actions speak louder than your words. Don’t falsify or embellish events that may have happened. Don’t say one thing and do the other.
  


• Wholehearted. Be enthusiastic about what you do. Show it. Be committed to life and everything that you set out to accomplish in life. Devote yourself to your family, friends, and community and commit yourself to being the best father, husband, wife, mother, friend, and neighbor you can be.
  


• Honest. Be honest in your dealings with yourself and with others. When others interact with you, let them see someone who is reputable, respectable and genuine. Do what you say you will do and never use fraud or deception to get ahead in life. Let ethics, morals, and honor be your compass.
  


• Heartfelt. When you do something for someone, or they do something for you, let your thanks and emotion be openly and outwardly expressed towards them.
  


• Hearty. Be someone who displays an honest, warm, and exuberant personality to those around them. Let your feelings show and let them be genuine when they do.
  


• Humility. Don’t lead a life thinking you are better than others or are superior to those around you. Modesty and humbleness will leave a far more ever lasting impact on people than trying to show off.
  


• Personal integrity. Always follow your heartfelt values, and never let a situation or anyone steer you away from doing what you know is right. Be someone that people can look up to and respect and not someone who trades his or her moral values for material gains in life.
  


• Incorruptibility. Let it be known that you stand firm for what you believe in and that your morals, values and actions are not for sale. Don’t let outside forces corrupt the person you are.
  


• Sound. Show good judgment and sense in life. Don’t let prejudices or emotions cloud your judgment.
  


• Whole. Be focused on what you want to achieve in life. Give everyone you interact with your complete and undivided attention.
  


• Courtesy. Practice good manners even though others around you may not.
  


• Civility. Graciousness and respect go a long way in life. What is more, they are viral – when people see you doing it they are more apt to practice civility themselves. Be kind to others and extend courtesy towards them. Don’t interrupt people when they speak and don’t dominate the conversation.
  


• Wisdom. Gain from the wisdom that is inside you. Understand the inner qualities of people and learn how to understand situations that might be different than we are used to.
  


• Charity. Practice kind, gentle, and compassionate treatment of others – especially those who may be undeserving. Learn to extend a hand to help others, even though they themselves may not have helped you.
  


• Empathy. Be aware that each person is different and may have different values and beliefs than those that you hold. Be understanding of the feelings and thoughts of others without having to be told or reminded of them.
  


• Sympathy. Share your feelings with others and understand the emotional situations that people go through. Put yourself in their shoes.
  


• Compassion. When someone is in distress, reach out with a genuine interest in helping alleviate their suffering.
  


• Altruism. Think of others without thinking of yourself. Do good things for people without expecting something in return for yourself.
  


• Magnanimous. Be generous in life. Give of your time, money and wisdom. Meet the Mayor & Adult Wii Game Night

Mayor Tim Tjosaas held his Meet The Mayor meeting at the library and in conjunction with the meeting the library held it's monthly Adult Wii Game Fest.

City Councilman Chuck Coleman organized the Wii event and 6 people were present to meet the Mayor and bowl. Chuck and Bonnie introduced two new people to the fun of Wii games and they did quite well. Friends of the Library provided the cookies for the event.


The library wishes to thank the Mayor, Chuck, and the Friends for this event. Next Adult Wii game night will be Wednesday, Dec. 16th at 7 pm. Make plans to come and compete.

There were very enthusicatic children that came from the local daycare Just Like Home. They answered questions from Children's Librarian Ingvild about grocery shopping and what items you will/will not find at grocery stores.

Meet the Mayor & Adult Wii Game Night

Mayor Tim Tjosaas will host Meet The Mayor chat at the library on Wednesday, November 4th at 7 pm. Plan on stopping by and talking with the Mayor on issues important to you, your family, and friends. If you cannot find time to stop by the library you may email the mayor with your concerns and/or questions. mayor@cityofkasson.com .

In addition the library will have an adult Wii Game night hosted by Library Director Bonnie Adams, City Council Member Chuck Coleman and the Friends of the Library will have treats.

If you have wanted to know more about or how to use the Wii we will be glad to teach you. Come on down and challenge Chuck, Bonnie, or Tim to a friendly Wii game. We are looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
